In a shocking sequence of events, North India experienced two significant earthquakes on Monday, February 17, 2025, causing widespread alarm among residents.

Early Morning Tremor in Delhi-NCR

At 5:36 AM, a 4.0-magnitude earthquake struck Delhi-NCR, with the epicenter near Durgabai Deshmukh College of Special Education in Dhaula Kuan at a shallow depth of 5 kilometers. Many in Delhi, Noida, Greater Noida, and Ghaziabad left their high-rise buildings in fright as the strong enough trembles woke others from sleep. As the earthquake struck, witnesses said they heard a loud rumbling sound.

Immediately addressing the country, Prime Minister Narendra Modi urged peace and following safety guidelines. He told people to keep a close eye out for any aftershocks and reminded them that the officials are always watching the problem.

The Delhi Police also called people on their emergency number to offer help and give them hope that everyone would be safe.

Second Earthquake Hits Bihar

Another 4.0-magnitude earthquake was detected in Bihar’s Siwan area at a depth of 10 km just a few hours later, at 8:02 AM. The National Centre for Seismology verified the occurrence, which raised public anxiety already disturbed by the last earthquake in Delhi-NCR.

Public Reactions and Safety Measures

The twin earthquakes have once again caused people to argue about how ready the area is for earthquakes. People should make sure their homes are safe during earthquakes, learn how to stay safe during an earthquake and have rescue goods on hand. The administration is ready to intervene should these events cause any disruption since it understands what is happening.

The latest earthquakes serve as a sobering reminder of how unpredictable earthquakes may be and how crucial it is to be informed about and ready for them in areas where they are somewhat often.
