Impact on Residents and Infrastructure
Wildfires are causing massive blackouts that have crippled millions of homes. Schools have closed in multiple districts, including the Pasadena Unified School District. The evacuation centers are overstretched and resources are scarce with emergency services already stretched thin.
Cause And Investigation
The cause of both the Eaton and Palisades fire is under investigation. But a potent combination of Santa Ana winds and record dry conditions have played a major part in the blazes’ rapid spread.
Public Figures Affected
Many celebrities have been affected by the wildfires. It has already cost Paris Hilton and Mark Hamill their homes, in the Pacific Palisades area. Mandy Moore and James Woods are among the stars who have evacuated their homes because of the spread of the fire.

Billionaire Elon Musk has urged California to change its regulations, calling them “nonsense,” and blamed policies for the state’s near annual wildfires. “These fires are 100 percent avoidable, but the fools in California that don’t care about the lives of their citizens put some regulations in place that prevent action being taken,” he said, “and every year homes burn down, more people die.”

Government Response
California’s governor, Gavin Newsom, has sent more than 1,400 firefighting personnel to battle the blazes. Federal funding and resources would be available to the affected areas after President Joe Biden signed a federal disaster declaration, his office said. However, the fires are still largely out of control and the conditions on the ground are developing rapidly.
