The weather’s getting more unpredictable, prices fluctuate like a runaway bullock cart, and sometimes, you just don’t know where to turn. That’s where Krishak Bandhu, which translates to “farmer’s friend” in Bengali, came in. Let me tell you, it’s been a game-changer.

More Money in My Pocket, More Security for My Family

Krishak Bandhu is a program by the West Bengal government, launched in 2019, that’s specifically designed to help farmers like me. It provides financial assistance, which is a massive help, considering how tight things can get between harvests.  Here’s the breakdown:

• If you have more than one acre of land, you get Rs. 10,000 a year, divided into two installments. This helps with pre and post-farming season expenses, a big relief from scrambling for loans.

• Farmers with less than one acre get Rs. 4,000 annually, also in two installments. Every bit counts, you see, especially when you’re trying to make ends meet.

• And here’s something that provides peace of mind – a Rs. 2 lakh life insurance policy. God forbid something happens to me, my family won’t be left empty-handed.

Over 30 lakh farmers in West Bengal are part of Krishak Bandhu, that’s a whole lot of families getting that little bit of extra support. It’s not just about the money, though. It’s the feeling that the government has our backs, that we’re not alone out there in the fields.
