Infosys Co-Founder Kris Gopalakrishnan Among 18 Accused Under SC/ST Atrocities Act

On January 28, 2025, a case was filed against Infosys co-founder Senapathy Kris Gopalakrishnan, former Indian Institute of Science (IISc) Director Balaram, and 16 other people under the Prevention of SC/ST Atrocities Act. The registration happened at the Sadashiva Nagar police station in Bengaluru, as ordered by the 71st City Civil and Sessions Court.

Durgappa, a member of the Bovi tribe group and a former teacher at IISc’s Centre for Sustainable Technology, claims that in 2014, he was wrongly accused in a honey trap case, which resulted in him losing his job. He also says that he has faced abuse and threats because of his race.

The people charged are Govindan Rangarajan, Sridhar Warrier, Sandhya Vishwswaraih, Hari K.V.S., Dasappa, Balaram P., Hemalata Mhishi, Chattopadhyaya K., Pradeep D. Sawkar, and Manoharan. So far, there has been no public reply from Kris Gopalakrishnan or the IISc staff about these accusations.

Kris Gopalakrishnan is a co-founder of Infosys. He was CEO and Managing Director from 2007 to 2011 and Vice Chairman from 2011 to 2014. In January 2011, for his work in the IT business, he received the Padma Bhushan, India’s third-highest citizen award.

In addition to his work at Infosys, Gopalakrishnan was chosen as President of the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) for 2013-14 and co-led the World Economic Forum in Davos in January 2014. He has master’s degrees in physics and computer science from the Indian Institute of Technology, Madras. He is a Fellow of the Indian National Academy of Engineers (INAE) and an Honorary Fellow of the Institution of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineers (IETE) in India.

The case against Kris Gopalakrishnan and the others involved is still being investigated, and more news is expected soon.
