Historic Milestone – First Woman Kashmiri Pandit to Contest J&K Assembly Polls in Three Decades
Srinagar, September 10, 2024 – Daisy Raina, a Kashmiri Pandit woman, is going to run for the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly elections. This is a big deal because it’s the first time in 30 years that a woman from this group has run for office.
Daisy Raina used to work for a private company in Delhi. As a sarpanch in Jammu and Kashmir, she has been involved in local government. She is running for office because she really wants to speak up for young people and address their issues.
“The youth forced me to contest and asked me to ensure that their voice reaches the J&K Assembly,” Daisy Raina shared.
Contesting From Rajpora Assembly Constituency, Pulwama
Daisy Raina is running for office from Pulwama’s Rajpora Assembly constituency, which has been through a lot of trouble in recent years. Despite the challenges, she remains optimistic about her campaign and the support from the local community.
“I worked here for years and even established a Shivling in Pulwama. Muslims asked me to do so because I had got a wazukhana (ablution pond) constructed and did many other things for them,” she explained.
The only candidate for the Republican Party of India (Athawale) is Raina. The Republican Party of India (Athawale) is an alliance partner of the BJP.
People see her running for office as a big step toward restoring independence and solving the long-standing problems that the people of Jammu and Kashmir have been having.
Raina’s entry into politics is a big deal for her personally and for many people in the area as a sign of hope and strength. Her journey shows the hopes of a group of people who have been through a lot over the years.
“I love Kashmir. I felt the innocent people of this land were used for many reasons. I kept explaining to the people of my community that not all can be blamed for our exodus,” she stated.
As the polls get closer, all eyes will be on Daisy Raina and her campaign, which looks like it will change the way politics work in Jammu and Kashmir.
