The Congress party has announced a new welfare scheme called the Pyari Didi Yojana. Under this, it promised Rs 2,500 per month to women in Delhi if it comes to power in the forthcoming assembly elections. This is inspired by similar programs undertaken by the Congress government in Karnataka, which have drawn attention to the financial support provided to women.

DK Shivakumar Launches ‘Pyari Didi Yojana’ in Delhi

Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar, while addressing a press conference in New Delhi on Monday, said his party was totally committed to empowering women. Shivakumar announced the scheme during his visit to Delhi and seems confident that the Congress will win the Delhi polls and that the new government will execute the scheme just after the very first Cabinet meeting. Shivakumar said, “Today, I am here to launch the ‘Pyari Didi Yojana‘. We have the confidence that Congress is going to form the government in Delhi and on the very first day of the new Cabinet we would implement this scheme to give Rs 2,500 to every woman in the capital.”

Congress’s Record of Delivering Promises

Shivakumar also emphasized that Congress has the record of delivery of promises made. He stated that similar programs have been successful in other states where the party is in power. “Whatever we have promised, Congress has delivered. Congress’ strength is the country’s strength, Congress history is the country’s history“. This statement further strengthens Congress’s image for delivering welfare schemes once they are announced.

Delhi Congress President Devender Yadav, who was also present at the announcement, said that Shivakumar’s views were his own. Yadav said that the party had fulfilled its promises in various states such as Karnataka, Telangana, Himachal Pradesh, Jharkhand, Rajasthan, and Chhattisgarh. He added that this track record of delivering on promises had increased public faith in Congress.

Yadav Criticizes Arvind Kejriwal’s Administration

Yadav also targeted Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, accusing him of not completing any promises with the people of Delhi. “The dreams that Arvind Kejriwal showed for Delhi are now falling apart,” Yadav said. Yadav has been targeting the administration led by Kejriwal for deteriorating the city’s situation over the last 11 years, citing lack of proper education, no free electricity, no free water, and failing to fight corruption.

Upcoming Assembly Elections

With Delhi gearing up for the 2025 Assembly elections, the Congress party is hopeful of reclaiming its position in the city from where it once ruled for 15 consecutive years. In the 2020 elections, Aam Aadmi Party claimed an absolute victory winning 62 out of 70 seats while Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) won eight. Congress could not win even a single seat in the last two assembly elections.

Election Campaign Strategy

The Pyari Didi Yojana announcement is the first of many promises Congress has in store as it tries to regain the confidence of Delhi voters. The scheme is bound to play a significant role in the party’s election campaign, as it looks to regain its support in the capital with its focus on women’s financial empowerment. Congress has unveiled the ‘Pyari Didi Yojana,’ promising Rs 2,500 monthly financial aid to women in Delhi if voted into power, aiming to empower women and regain the trust of Delhi voters ahead of the 2025 Assembly elections.
