Mahakaleshwar Temple Hosts Grand Bhasma Aarti for Janmashtami

Celebrated with great enthusiasm at the Mahakaleshwar Jyotirlinga this year was Janmashtami.

Early on Monday Bhadrapad Krishna, the celebrations started with the temple doors opening at 4 AM.

Waking at 2:30 AM, Baba Mahakal washed in a ceremonial ceremony called Panchamrit Abhishek, which calls for milk, curd, honey, ghee, sugar.

Complementing a garland of fragrant flowers, the god was ornamented with a silver crown modelled Sheshnag, a silver Mundmaal, and a Rudraksha garland.

The Bhasma Aarti started at 2:30 AM and the priests were chanting old songs and carrying out complex ceremonies. Presenting the holy ash to Lord Mahakal, the environment exuded spiritual energy and respect. Attired in traditional garb, the devotees engaged in the custom with great fervour.

Attaching the temple to see the Bhasma Aarti, thousands of followers from all throughout the nation assembled.

Among them was Bengaluru-based Dhirendra Sakhya, who gave Lord Mahakal a piece of silver crown weighing around 3246 kg.

The committee in charge of the temple praised the gift and produced official receipts.

The celebration was meticulously planned in great part by the Shri Mahakaleshwar Temple Management Committee.
