In a major legal development, a court in Mohali has given self-proclaimed priest Bajinder Singh a life term for his role in a rape case that happened in 2018. Additional District and Sessions Judge Vikrant Kumar gave the decision. He said that the 42-year-old was guilty of rape, knowingly causing harm, and criminal harassment under Sections 376, 323 and 506 of the Indian Penal Code.
A woman from Zirakpur first brought the case in 2018 when she said Bajinder Singh sexually assaulted her while pretending to help her plan a trip abroad. She also said Singh had a video camera and recorded the beating. He then threatened to post the video on social media if she didn’t do what he said.

Following the court’s decision, the victim expressed relief and called for continued vigilance, stating, “He (Bajinder) is a psycho and will do the same offense after coming out of jail, so I want him to stay in prison. A lot of girls (victims) have won today. I request that DGP ensure our security since there is a possibility of attacks on us.” Advocate Anil Sagar, representing the victim, emphasized the importance of a stringent sentence, highlighting that Singh exploited individuals’ religious faith to commit his crimes.
Besides this sentence, Bajinder Singh has had other problems with the law. In February 2025, Punjab Police filed an FIR against him after a woman named Ranjeet Kaur said he had beaten her up after a prayer meeting. Kaur said that during the meeting, she and other people were insulted and physically attacked.

Many people have been accusing him of many things, which has put a shadow over his ministry and made people worry about how easily weak people can be used for religious gain. Singh did a terrible thing, and the fact that the court sentenced him to life in prison is a strong warning not to abuse power and trust in religious groups.
