Importance of the Location: 

The name Ayodhya is derived from the two words Ayodh and Dharma. According to Hindu texts, Lord Ram has been the most virtuous person ever to walk on this planet.  He is portrayed as the perfect son, a loyal husband, and an esteemed king. With faith of this kind, it is no wonder that Ayodhya features highly on almost every Hindu’s travel wish list. As per Hinduism, Ayodhya is the birthplace of Lord Ram. He is supposed to be the seventh incarnation of Lord Vishnu. It is the land of Ramayana – the oldest epic ever composed which is concerned with the deeds of Lord Ram – and is often referred to as ‘a place full of righteousness’. The Saryu River is deeply significant to all Hindus.

The river runs through Ayodhya, which is a holy town of Uttar Pradesh and is thought to be the birth place of Lord Rama.  In the Ramayana, the river is a big part of Lord Ram’s life, from his exile to his return. It’s seen as very pure and holy. In Hindu culture, it is a common belief that the river is made from the tears of Lord Vishnu, representing purity and new beginnings. The Saryu River links to the Ganges too which increases its sanctity. Many devotees visit the river to seek blessings and perform certain rituals , as they believe that it cleanses both body and soul. So, the celebration of Deepotsav in the holy city of Ayodhaya means that people give respect to these traditions of dharma and history where bhakti reigns supreme.

Main Event: The main attraction of Deepotsav 2024 shall be the lighting of 28 lakh diyas (earthen lamps) on the banks of Saryu River.  The effort is directed to establish a new world record and offer a visual treat of fabulous lights.  The UP government is also making arrangements to use eco-friendly lamps that do not cause stains and soot and have longer periods of burning for this occasion.

Celebration Activities:

1. International Ram Leela: International artists from six countries will perform at Ram Katha Park on October 30 This will be a grand spectacle showcasing the story of Lord Ram through drama and dance
2. Vibrant Tableaux: There will be 18 vibrant tableaux depicting events from Rama’s life which include his education, marriage to Sita, exile, meeting Bharat, and defeating Ravana.
3. Cultural Programs: The events will be spread throughout the city as various other cultural programs and performances are organised to mark the occasion of Ayodhya’s pride and culture.
4. Decorations: The homes and public areas will be adorned with flowers, rangoli, and lights to enhance the festivity of the occasion.

How to Participate: In order to participate in the celebrations, one can go to the city of Ayodhya to see the diyas being lit on the banks of river Saryu. Due to the amount of interest, please make sure you arrange your trip accordingly and book your places in advance. Deepotsav 2024 is about to be an enormous celebration filled with culture, light, and the love of the Lord. The event seeks to celebrate Lord Rama and the essence of the festival Diwali.

Government Initiatives

The Uttar Pradesh government under the stewardship of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has been making plans to hold the eighth Deepotsav in Ayodhya. Chief Minister’s Statement

CM Yogi Adityanath has put into efforts and declared that this Deepotsav will be of a great magnitude and will ensure that Deepotsav celebrations are environmentally safe.  All the departments have been directed by him to put in hard work in order to improve the grandeur of the Deepotsav.  He has also spoken about the government’s efforts in protecting the cows, where the plan will include the lighting up of 1.5 lakh cow dung cakes as part of the celebrations.

Dignitaries Visiting

It is expected a number of dignitaries will visit the city of Ayodhya for the Deepostav celebrations.  Although specific names have yet to be announced, it is expected that political leaders, ministries and other public representatives are all likely to visit the event of the occasion and honour the spiritual legacy of Ayodhya as well as partake in the event.

Cultural and Environmental Highlights

A magnificent 18 vibrant tableaux will tell the story of important chapters in Lord Ram’s life, and will include his education, marriage to Sita, the time spent in exile and returning to Ayodhya.  Artists from six foreign countries will also participate in performing during the global Ram Leela,adding to the grandeur of the celebrations.  As if this was not enough, there is also the Bhavan Darshan which will allow devotees to visit the temple from the 29th of October up to the 1st of November and see its rich decorations.
