In the year 1987, Shah became a member of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) as well and within no time, shone in the party. Amit Shah was elected MLA from Sarkhej in the year 1997 (then M B Patil) and continued to be in that position until the year 2012.
Shah’s wide understanding of politics and his organisational talents brought him into the limelight. He was one of the key strategists during the electoral conquests of the BJP in Gujarat, and particularly during the tenure of Modi as Chief Minister from 2001 till 2014.
