Bollywood director Karan Johar recently expressed his displeasure after watching a comedian mimic him on a TV show, calling the act “in poor taste.” The filmmaker took to Instagram to share his thoughts, stating that while he expected such behavior from online trolls, he was disappointed to see it coming from within the film industry.

In his Instagram Stories, Karan Johar did not mention the show or the comedian by name. However, many social media users speculated that he was referring to Kettan Singh, who mimicked him on the show “Madness Machayenge – India Ko Hasayenge.”

“I was sitting and watching television with my mom…and saw a promo of a reality comedy show on a supposedly respectable channel… a comic was mimicking me in exceptionally poor taste,” Karan wrote. “I expect this from trolls and faceless and nameless people but when your own industry can disrespect someone who has been in the business for over 25 years it speaks volumes about the times we live in…this doesn’t even anger me it just makes me sad!”

Who is Karan Johar Talking About In His Post?

The incident prompted film producer Ekta Kapoor to share Karan’s statement on her Instagram Stories, showing her support. “Happened so many times! Ugly humor sometimes on shows. And even at award functions. And then they expect you to attend! Karan please ask them to imitate one movie or classic of yours,” Ekta wrote. Karan responded by reposting her story and expressing his gratitude, “Love you Ektu.”

The controversy led to speculation on social media platforms such as Instagram, Twitter, and Reddit, with many users trying to decipher the identity of the comedian. The general consensus pointed towards Kettan Singh, who, in a recent promo for the show, dressed up as Karan and poked fun at his popular chat show, “Koffee With Karan.”

In his act, Kettan humorously renamed the show “Toffee with Churan” and took jabs at Karan for launching star kids in Bollywood. He also poked fun at Karan’s dancing skills, adding to the comedic sketch.

The incident has sparked a debate on social media about the boundaries of humor and satire, especially when it comes to public figures. While some defend the comedian’s right to parody, others believe that there should be a line drawn to prevent disrespectful portrayals.

Regardless of the controversy, Karan Johar’s impact on Indian cinema and entertainment remains undeniable. His work as a director, producer, and television personality has left a lasting imprint on the industry, earning him both accolades and criticism along the way.
