Rekha Gupta Becomes Delhi’s First Woman Chief Minister in 22 Years

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has been back in power in Delhi for the first time in 27 years, with Rekha Gupta taking the oath of office as Chief Minister. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other important leaders were at the event at Ramlila Maidan.

Background and Political Journey

Born in Haryana on July 19, 1974. Her family went to Delhi when she was two years old. She started working in politics in 1992 while still at Delhi University with the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP). Her hard work earned her the title of President of the Delhi University Students’ Union (DUSU) for the 1996–1997 term.

In 2007, Rekha Gupta was chosen as a city councilor from North Pitampura. This showed how committed she was to public service. She started plans like the “Sumedha Yojana” to help poor female students go to college when she was Mayor of the South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC).

Historic Election Victory

In 2025, the Delhi Assembly had 70 seats, and the BJP won 48 of them. Rekha Gupta, a first-time Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA), beat Bandana Kumari of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) by more than 29,000 votes to win the Shalimar Bagh seat. This win marks a big change in the political scene in Delhi.

Commitment to Development

As Delhi’s new Chief Minister, Rekha Gupta has promised to deal with important problems like smog, building up the city’s infrastructure, and giving women more power. She has promised to work honestly and hard for the good of all city residents and their growth as a whole.

Traffic Arrangements for the Oath Ceremony

Because of the event at Ramlila Maidan, the Delhi Traffic Police put out warnings to make sure traffic flowed smoothly. People who were commuting were told to stay away from certain roads between 7 AM and 4 PM and instead use public transport to help ease traffic.

Rekha Gupta’s election as Chief Minister starts a new era in Delhi’s government. People are looking forward to good changes and growth for everyone under her guidance.
