YouTuber Ankush Bahuguna has recently shared the harrowing experience of falling prey to a 40-hour digital arrest scam. Being an engaging YouTuber, with a follower count of 7 lakh, his ordeal started in a pretty innocuous-looking phone call. The automated message claimed that his courier delivery had been canceled and that illegal items were found in the package. Curiosity made him dial zero for assistance, which turned out to be a wrong decision.

On the other end was a scamster who was masquerading as a customer care representative. The scammer informed YouTuber Ankush Bahuguna that his name, Aadhar number, and other details were attached to the package, which had been impounded by customs. He then accused YouTuber Ankush Bahuguna of grave crimes such as money laundering and narcotics smuggling. Ankush was perplexed and frightened. He was told that he was digitally arrested and must speak to the police immediately.

Things got worse when the call was transferred to a video call with a person in a police uniform. The scammed police asked YouTuber Ankush Bahuguna to cut off all connections with the outer world and perform suspicious bank transactions. For 40 hours, YouTuber Ankush Bahuguna was convinced that he was under digital arrest, which resulted in a heavy financial loss and mental trauma.

He realised that he was actually a victim only because one of his friends noticed his different behavior and brought him back in track. Ankush shared the incident through an emotional post on Instagram as one of the ways of cautioning others about such cybercrimes and making them aware. He thanked his friends for having been vigilant while cautioning people to be alert against digital scams.

Well, Ankush’s experience is a blunt reminder of how far the scammers go to exploit people’s trust and manipulate their victims. His story underlines vigilance and verification of authenticity of the unexpected calls or messages. In his ordeal, YouTuber Ankush Bahuguna hopes to prevent others from falling into similar scams and emphasizes the need for increased cybersecurity awareness.
