Eknath Shinde Accepts Deputy CM Role After Fadnavis Meeting
In a significant political development in the Maratha land, Eknath Shinde agreed to be a part of the Devendra Fadnavis-led government at the Deputy Chief Minister’s post.
He made his move after a 20-minute grilling meeting with Fadnavis at Varsha Bungalow, Chief Minister’s official residence.
The last ten days have been really distressing for Eknath Shinde as he has seen health issues along with mounting pressure on him to join the new government.

Shinde was not ready to relinquish the chief minister’s position for two and a half years of tenure and preferred instead to consolidate his party organization.
Political scientists speculated that internal fissures had occurred within the Mahayuti alliance when Shinde went back to his village at Satara but returned to Mumbai to start his talks with leaders in the alliance.
In their meeting, Fadnavis assured Shinde of the fair distribution of key portfolios such as the home department, MSRDC, and energy, which are important for governance as well as the political standing of Shinde’s party.
This assurance played a central role in persuading Shinde to accept the Deputy CM role.

Former cabinet colleagues and Shiv Sena MLAs also played a major role in convincing Shinde. Continued demands from MLAs, MPs, and Shiv Sainiks all over the state emphasized that Shinde’s participation was a must for the new government to keep party morale and unity. Leading Shiv Sena leaders brought out that his participation would be beneficial for the party as well as for the administration.
The inducting of Shinde as the Deputy Chief Minister of Fadnavis’s government will be one of the major events of Maharashtra politics. This step will allow Shiv Sena to be relevant in the government and the leadership of Shinde to be reinforced in the party. Underlining the necessity to sustain the harmony of the coalition through the management of the internal demands, assurances of proper distribution of portfolios stand.
Shinde will play a key role in determining governance and politics for the state under the Mahayuti government in this new chapter for Maharashtra.
