NC Leader Omar Abdullah Urges Rahul Gandhi to Focus on Jammu in J&K Elections

Jammu and Kashmir, September 25, 2024 – Vice President of the National Conference Omar Abdullah has asked Rahul Gandhi, the leader of the Congress party, to change the focus of his campaign from Kashmir to Jammu. This is happening at the same time as the second round of elections for the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly.

Alliance Dynamics: The NC and Congress are both running for office at the same time. The NC is running for 51 seats, and Congress is running for 32 seats.
Election Phases: On September 18, the first of three rounds of voting began. The second round is now going on, and the third and final round will be on October 1.
Voter Turnout: Voters turned out in large numbers (59% in the first phase), and strict security is in place for the parts that are still going on.

“Ultimately, what the Congress does in Kashmir is not important. A lot of people care about what the Congress does in Jammu. Abdullah said after casting his vote, “Unfortunately, Congress hasn’t done as much in the plains of Jammu as we would expect them to do.“

Because Abdullah is running from both Ganderbal and Budgam, the polls are very important for him. He wants to take back Ganderbal, which is where his family lives, and win.

Upcoming Phases – On October 1, the last round of voting will happen, and the votes will be counted on October 8.
