India had a busy Day 5 at the Paris Olympics 2024, with competitors competing in different events and giving amazing performances. PV Sindhu’s heated badminton battle and the men’s doubles team’s win attracted fans.

PC Sindhu Reaches Quarterfinals

The highly anticipated women’s singles match pitted PV Sindhu against Ratchanok Intanon of Thailand.

The first game was a close fight with powerful smashes and precision drop shots. Sindhu won the first game 21-19 with her persistent attack and good defense. In the second game, Intanon targeted Sindhu’s backhand corner to create errors and win 21-17. Sindhu won the decider 21-18 with her jump smashes and grit. Sindhu will play China’s He Bingjiao, famed for her smart play and court covering, in the quarterfinals after this win.

Indian men’s doubles pair Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty defeated Indonesia’s Muhammad Rian Ardianto and Fajar Alfian

Their coordinated movements, fast reactions, and accurate shots secured a straight-game win, 21-16, 21-18, and advanced them to the quarterfinals. Their performance hints at a podium.

Tokyo Olympics bronze medalist Lovlina Borgohain defeated Ukraine’s Anastasiia Shamonova in her Round of 16 boxing debut

The judges ruled unanimously for Lovlina due to her powerful jabs and defense. Her strong performance puts her in contention for another medal.

Other Indian competitors competed in various sports on the day.

In table tennis, Sreeja Akula lost a thrilling five-game encounter to Matilda Ekholm of Sweden.

Cheng I-Ching of Chinese Taipei challenged Manika Batra.

Deepika Kumari showed her precision and proficiency in individual recurve archery.

Shooting, equestrian, rowing, and more badminton contests were on Day 5

The women’s trap qualification event saw Rajeshwari Kumari and Shreyasi Singh compete to get to the final and contribute to India’s medal count.

After Manu Bhaker and Sarabjot Singh won the 10m Air Pistol mixed team bronze the day before, India made history.

This triumph has strengthened the Indian team’s spirit as they seek additional medals.

Paris Olympics 2024 Day 5 Live Updates:

A busy day five awaits the Indian contingent on July 31 at the ongoing Paris Olympics with as many as 14 athletes in action across boxing, badminton, equestrian, shooting, table tennis, and archery.

There’s just one event where India could potentially add another medal – women’s trap wherein Rajeshwari Kumari and Shreyasi Singh will be in action on Day 2 of qualification. If the two finish among the top six, they will enter the final to be held later on Wednesday.

On Tuesday, India added another medal to their tally thanks, again, to Manu Bhaker who created history alongside Sarabjot Singh as the two teamed up to clinch the bronze medal in the 10m Air Pistol mixed team event.

India’s day will get underway with shooting followed by badminton, equestrian, table tennis and more. All eyes will be on star shuttler PV Sindhu who needs a win to enter the knockouts as do Lakshya Sen and HS Prannoy.
