The election for the post of speaker in Lok Sabha is taking place today, marking a historic moment. Let’s delve into the key details surrounding this high-stakes Speaker election:

Contenders – Om Birla Of BJP VS K Suresh Of Congress

Om Birla (BJP): A three-time MP from Rajasthan’s Kota, Om Birla served as the Speaker in the last Lok Sabha.

K Suresh (Congress): An eight-term MP from Kerala’s Mavelikara, K Suresh holds the distinction of being the longest-serving parliamentarian in the 18th Lok Sabha.

Union Minister Chirag Paswan expressed 100% confidence in the coalition’s victory. The Opposition’s attempt to impose conditions on Rajnath Singh’s meetings with them was deemed inappropriate.

First-Ever Lok Sabha Election

This is the first time in many years that there will be an election for the Lok Sabha Speaker position. Both the BJP and Congress have issued a three-line whip, instructing all their MPs to be present during the voting process.

The number of MPs in attendance and participating will determine the outcome. With 293 members in the 543-member Lok Sabha, the NDA holds a decisive majority.

Prominent leaders like Shashi Tharoor, Shatrughan Sinha, and others will sit out voting. The reasons for the delayed oath-taking of these leaders remain undisclosed.

Congress’s Kodikunnil Suresh will compete against the BJP’s Om Birla for the position of Speaker in the 18th Lok Sabha.
